2008's Hottest Men
In the spotlight or on the field, these heartthrobs are always scorching. But this year, they really turned up the heat. PEOPLE India makes up a list of the hottest men in town. We take a look.John Abraham

When he stepped out of the ocean, his taut, wet muscles gleaming in the sun, even girlfriend Bipasha Basu had to catch her breath. "She said to me, 'I've forgotten how attractive you are,'" recalls John, laughing at Bipasha's reaction to his stripping down for Dostana.
His appeal lies in more than just his bubble butt -- it's refreshing to know that although he spends an hour a day at the gym, the actor is not all about his looks. "Contrary to popular perception, I'm not narcissistic. I don't like looking in the mirror and I get very embarrassed when women compliment me," he says.
He is, however, happy with the attention while it lasts. "I'm not afraid of growing old and getting wrinkles. I want to age gracefully, like George Clooney or Brad Pitt."
Sexiest Asset: "My back."
Romance Is: "I don't have a set idea of romance. I think most of us today just fantasise about it. But our lifestyles don't allow us to make those ideas real."
Shah Rukh Khan
SRK: The biggest star in the world
The sight of him playing the bespectacled babu, buttering his own toast, is one fans might find hard to swallow. Especially after he's stripped down to his six pack and thrust himself into their hearts with last year's charttopper Dard-e-Disco. It's precisely this quality that makes Shah Rukh Khan the man. Geek or god, he'll always score.
He might have lost a co-star friend and cricket match along the way, but nothing really takes away from his aura.
As Karan Johar puts it, "Over three billion people across the world know Shah Rukh and 2.7 billion people know Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. By virtue of these statistics, it makes SRK the biggest star in the world."
My Way: "If you have personal style, whatever you wear will look stylish."

Vikram 'My wit and humour are my sexiest qualities'
The actor is the chameleon of south Indian cinema -- slipping in and out of characters as diverse as Chittan, the gravedigger of Pithamagan, or the mentally-afflicted protagonist of Anniyan, Ambi.
But none of these disguises can mask his magnetic physicality. Vikram, who rose to stardom after a long 10-year struggle, is what they call 'the whole package'.
Shriya Saran, his co-star in the soon-to-bereleased Tamil film, Kandaswamy, can't stop gushing. "He is down-to-earth, well-spoken and confident." There's nothing sexier than a man, who carries himself with such aplomb. The actor reveals in an interview to rediff.com that his resolve is the key. "The 10 of years of struggle was nothing. I felt a little low, that's all."
My Best Asset: "My wit and humour are my sexiest qualities." "On days when I felt good, I would push myself," he said. "There was no time to think... because I'd be screaming in pain." He's also built a considerable reputation as a man who always has a plan. From micro-managing nephew Imran's launch to his own directorial debut this year, he's come out on top. Ghajini co-star Asin says, "He is so intelligent and analytical. People tend to be negative about his strive for perfection. But it's easy to work with him because he is a perfectionist." He's Got Game: "I am competitive in that I would like to be the 'most loved' in this country. Is it an overwhelming emotion within me? It is not." "Mahi's butt is one of the sexiest things about him," says stylist Sapna Bhavnani, who tamed those trademark locks to give him a short, trendy look. "He's so shy about compliments that his only reaction is a quick smile and 'thanks'." That boyish grin has taken many wickets, both off the field and on, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni is unruffled. Describing himself as "quiet, calm and cool" in an interview to Sportstar in December 2005, he said, "When I don't smile, I look quite intense." Sports commentator Harsha Bhogle reveals, "He's instinctive; a gambler and that gives him an edge." Famous Last Words: "I don't really like being in the news apart from the sports pages." Rahul Gandhi 'His smile does wonders' "His smile does wonders," says one student Anna Tharakan. But Rahul's friends believe it's his modesty that wins hearts. "He's a thorough gentleman," says Janhavi Prasada, a family friend. Unlike the rest of us, she sees him in western wear too, but believes he carries off the traditional look best. Designer Suneet Varma concurs. "He takes the iconic kurta-pyjama to another level." Love and marriage will have to wait till after the 2009 general elections. In the meantime, he's happy to snatch moments with Spanish girlfriend Veronique, when she visits India. Body of Work: Rahul often hits the treadmill and does weights at the gym at The President's Estate, Rashtrapati Bhavan. He loves to swim too, and those who've checked him out at the pool claim he sports a six pack! Hrithik Roshan 'The way he carries himself makes a man sexy' About his take on Mughal emperor Jalaluddin, Hrithik says, "He had to be sexy if we wanted youngsters to identify with him." Kind of like the man himself, who happily shares what others find hot about him. "My eyes, my body, my muscles, my voice and the way I talk." What works for him, however, is a little less obvious. "The way he carries himself makes a man sexy," says the suave actor, who confesses his personal style is laid-back. "If I left home without my wife noticing, I would wear the same jeans I had on yesterday and the first tee I could get my hands on. Maybe a cap so that I don't have to comb my hair." My Best Asset: "I like my left hand. I think it's the only hand I have without a double thumb and it looks normal." After the success of last year's Om Shanti Om, he joined an ensemble cast in the sleeper hit Rock On!! "It was the best thing that happened to me this year," says the star who donned a droopy moustache to play the talented, brooding Joe Mascarenhas. While co-star Farhan Akhtar upped the film's sexy quotient, Arjun walked away with praise for his quiet performance. He's equally at ease being a drop-dead dish. "I am what I am," he says, shrugging. "I try using my good looks to my benefit." Or to help others -- at the Indian Premier League matches this year, he and best buddy Shah Rukh Khan played cheerleaders to adoring fans who turned up to support Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders. But Arjun has no intention of bulking up like his friend. "My four-pack is sexy too." On Aging: "It makes sense to embrace it gracefully rather than run away from it." Hottest Asset: "My family." Grooming Ritual: "I have to brush my teeth at least twice a day." "I'm glad I took fitness seriously," he said to The Chennai Times. "Slowly I got used to it and even started liking it." Director Gowtham Menon says of the versatile actor, who plays a double role of father and son in the film: "His dedication amazed me." Another role Suriya's taking seriously is playing daddy to Diya, his daughter with actress Jyotika. "She's growing up real fast. Words tumble out of her mouth at such speed," he said in The Hindu. Personal Motto: "I know I'm not a perfectionist. I'm just trying hard to get there." "Being a movie star means having a wider choice of filmmakers who want to work with you. So I have a long way to go." He's also hoping to make an impression on the girl at home. "I always wished that Adhuna was attracted by my good looks. But she told me that it was my sense of humour that she loves." Sexiest Asset: "My slightly protruding buck-teeth." Secret to Looking Sexy: "After a shower, I have to moisturise." Zaheer Khan 'Winning is sexy' "Winning is sexy," he says. And that's what he has managed to do over the last year, fronting the Indian bowling attack in the last three series. He's handy with the bat too, and rates his partnership with Turbinator Harbhajan Singh in the India-Australia Bangalore Test and Man of the Match honour as his 'hottest moments' of the year. He's got his game in place, and we're not just talking cricket. Single for two years after breaking up with actress Isha Sharvani, he believes that to impress a girl 'I would just be myself.' And yes, he'd score. "I'm told I'm easy to relate to." Perfect Date: "Walk on the white sand on the beach at sunset." My Bushy Brows: "I wouldn't trim them. I only do stuff to my hair."
Rapid Reader: "I've been picking up books that friends suggest but they have to be 200 pages long or less."
Aamir Khan 'I would like to be the 'most loved' in this country'
He never runs with the pack. While his Bollywood brothers toned their size sixes, Aamir went two steps ahead to eight. Unveiling his 'mine is bigger' look in Bombay Times this October, the Ghajini star revealed he got there by working out three hours, every day, for 18 months.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni 'Mahi's butt is one of the sexiest things about him'
With a T-20 World Cup in the bag, he's now showing the Aussies how it's done. His game isn't the only reason why the Indian captain is super hot right now.
If good looks could win an election, this Gandhi scion has the next one in the bag. On a recent visit to his alma mater, St Stephen's College in New Delhi, the young politician was mobbed by a group of eager girls.
He slayed hearts with his bare-chested sword play in Jodhaa Akbar and seduced with his kohl-lined green eyes.
Arjun Rampal 'My four-pack is sexy too'
We always knew he was gorgeous. Now, we know he can act too.
Suriya 'I know I'm not a perfectionist. I'm just trying hard to get there'
The slim superstar has set pulses racing down south with his hulky new look in the Tamil film Vaaranam Aayiram. Building the six-pack wasn't easy for the actor, whose gym spree was inspired by actor Aamir Khan, star of the Hindi remake of Suriya's Tamil original Ghajini. But the southern hottie has no regrets.
Farhan Akhtar 'I always wished that Adhuna was attracted by my good looks'
He sent temperatures soaring with his shower scene in Rock On!!. The filmmaker is clearly enjoying playing pin-up boy. "Just before I started shooting for Rock On!! physically, I was in good shape. Almost everyone I met complimented me on how I looked." Farhan's taking the praise in his stride.
On the field, he works magic with the ball. Off it, girls are bowled over by his 'broad shoulders'. The female attention can never get old, but that's not what turns the cricketer on.
